The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics have concluded. There are so many different events in the winter Olympics. There has also been a scandal going on in these Olympics with Russia and the doping of athletes, which has happened so many times throughout history. The current scandal is about 15-year-old Kamila Valieva. She was allowed to compete, but was allowed to participate in medal ceremony. Russia has been caught and accused of cheating many times in Olympic history; Russia’s athletes have been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs. Valieva was allowed to continue to compete for a number of reasons. For one, she is a minor. She most likely did not know what was going on, nor may she have had a choice in the matter. She was also allowed to compete because a lab in Sweden took 6 weeks to process her drug test. The panel that decided she is protected because of her age, also decided that she did not have enough time to defend herself from these charges. Russia as a country continues to be banned from participating in the Olympics because of how many time they have cheated through doping and other methods.
