Hello Fashionistas! Fall has arrived! These past few months the weather has been perfect for chunky sweaters, jeans, and boots, just to name a few wardrobe staples. As always our color bible from the Pantone Color Institute has dictated what colors are trend worthy this season. “A Unity of Strength, Confidence and Complexity” is the headline Pantone uses to describe the colors for this fall 2016, which leans toward blue tones. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute for the past thirteen years, explains her vision of why these colors speak to her;

“The desire for tranquility, strength, and optimism have inspired a Fall 2016 color palette that is led by the Blue family. Along with anchoring earth tones, exuberant pops of vibrant colors also appear throughout the collections. Transcending gender, these unexpectedly vivacious colors in our Fall 2016 palette act as playful but structured departures from your more typical fall shades. Blue skies represent constancy as they are always above us. Grays give a feeling of stability, Red tones invite confidence and warmth, while the hot Pinkish Purples and Spicy Mustard Yellows suggest a touch of the exotic.” For more descriptive information on the Pantone colors for fall log on to Pantone. Now, with Ms. Eiseman’s colorful words in mind, let’s take a look at what is considered fashion forward for fall 2016.

According to Stylecaster, statement fur, thoughtful layering, chokers, excessive ruffles, and the use of bold colors and prints were incorporated on the runway this fall. However, never under estimate the use of a great neutral. Tan is an important component of this falls palette and a great base to allow your additional colors to shine. “Expect to see tons of pants, knits, skirts, and—our favorite—outerwear done up in varying shades of tan, perhaps the chicest, most classic color there is, from muted khaki to soft camel”. Although neutrals are a personal favorite of mine as they are classic hues and always appropriate, gold metallic adds twinkle “specifically gold…poised to be a seasonal standout”. For a warmer, totally cool, more every day look, “classic aviator-style shearling jackets” are trend setters “with everything from kick flares to midi dresses”.

Another huge trend this season is plaid and not your average tartan that comes to mind. “Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham approached plaid in a much cleaner, subtler, muted way, and used the print on everything from outerwear to cocktail dresses”. These designers mixed their fabulous plaids with fur and metallic, remaining feminine but with a definite menswear feel. My personal favorite is the blue plaid overcoat with large black buttons as this look is very stylish, classic but with a twist while maintaining a current feel. Men’s inspired black pointy shoes in patent leather or flat leather is another great look this year with a nod to the classic, traditional look of previous decades yet modernized for today.

There are far more examples of what is hip and trendy this fall on Stylecaster. From florals to chokers, off the shoulder outfits to pantsuits, you will find your style and color this fall.
