Dear F.O.,

Start out by asking him, “what are you doing May 8th?” If he says, “Nothing”, then say, “would you want to ask your friends and I can ask my friends if they would want to go to the dance as a group together?” Then see what he says. This way your are specifying that it would be a friend gathering and not a date.
