Book Review: The Maze Runner

It seems like just a few months ago everyone was talking about The Maze Runner by James Dashner.  With the recent buzz and movie premiere, I decided to see for myself what all the talk was about, and I was shocked to find myself hooked to the series after reading only the first book of the trilogy.

The New York Times best seller is a sci-fi book that captivates readers, transporting them into the feared maze. The book, in my opinion, starts off slow. However, as I kept reading, I quickly fell in love with the characters. If you haven’t seen the movie or read the book, the main idea of the novel is that kids are placed in an experiment that is truly just a test. Each month a new person is sent to the Glade, as they call it. Thomas and Theresa, the only girl, are the last two people sent. None of the kids remember anything about their past life besides their names. However, Theresa and Thomas are able to remember parts of their past and as they explore the ever changing and unpredictable Maze, they put together pieces of the mystery to ultimately get out of the Maze. It ends looking well for the subjects, but a lot is left unsure.

This book is a must read if you haven’t already read it. The second movie coming out in September, so you may want to read the second book too. After being left with that ending, I know I can’t wait to read the next book.
