Taylor Swift is everywhere. A few weeks ago, Taylor Swift dropped her new album, “1989.”  We all know that Taylor started of as a serious country singer. Some of her first hits, such as “Love Story,” “Tear Drops on my Guitar,” and “Our Song” made her a name among country stars. It is easy to see how her style has evolved over the past few years. Releasing songs like “Shake it off,” and “Trouble,” fans who have followed Taylor since the beginning can now see her style veering away from country and merging with pop.

The album “1989″ has been christened her first official pop album. Drum programming, thumping bass, backing vocals, and guitars are heard on many of her songs. As usual, the main focus of Taylor’s songs is love.  With her life  so much in the the media, Taylor’s relationships play out in public swiftly followed by a new hit breakup song coming out a few weeks later.

However, one single, “Blank Spaces,” is drawing a lot of attention, perhaps because it isn’t just a break up song. “Blank Spaces” does touch on aspects of love, like all her songs, but with a twist. Sometimes in life, it is better not to take things so seriously and just laugh at yourself. This seems to be the message of this song.

“Got a long list of ex-lovers, they’ll tell you I’m insane.tsblankpage

But I’ve got a blank space, baby, and I’ll write your name”

Even though Taylor acknowledges that she sometimes writes sentimental songs about ex-boyfriends, she also uses some girl power to point out their flaws. “Blank Spaces” has gained a lot of attention as a result of it’s music video. The video was so well done that a “Blank Spaces” app has been created based off the music video. This app allows viewers to follow Taylor through the music video as an interactive experience.

This new direction that Taylor is taking goes beyond just a genre of music. Followers of Taylor can see how she is growing and changing as an entertainer and a female artist.
