Spring/Summer 2017
Spring is finally here, although you would never know it by the weather. It remains cold with random scattered snow showers but occasionally Mother Nature throws in a day so beautiful we know that better weather is right around the corner. With this in mind let’s take a peek at what is fashion forward for warmer temperatures regarding color, fabrics, and style.
According to Vogue, “color and light” are the “watchwords for the season” of 2017. Vogue, which has become a staple in magazine couture, was founded in 1892 by American business man Arthur Baldwin Turnure. The first Vogue issue cost ten cents and has since been the go-to magazine for fashion-conscious individuals who want their style to be on point. Vogue has declared that “a confident look with exaggerated lines, metallic effects, graphic prints on new-generation trenches and bright candy pink and sunshine yellow” are the new statements for this season. Square and rounded shoulders, oversized and exaggerated, project that confident, masculine look with a bit of femininity thrown in. Florals, pleating, stripes, and geometrics all in funky brights are sure to lift your spirits as you journey through your days. Another “seasonal staple that tops editors’ wishlists” is the jumpsuit.
This is followed by leggings in diverse fabrics and colors to give you that streamlined look. Sleeveless sweater vests, hooded tops, 70’s prints, and polka dots all made the list of what is deemed fashionable by Vogue this season. Glamour echoes the sentiments of Vogue by adding trends such as off the shoulder tops, graphic slogan T’s, and iridescence, a trend from the 90’s, to round out what’s chic.
Seventeen Magazine has dubbed Kendall Jenner as owning fashion week in New York. Kendall swaggered down the runway in numerous shows this season from New York, Paris, and Milan, just to name a few, representing designers such as Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Chanel, Diane Von Furstenberg, and others from all over the world. In black and white stripes, mixing graphic prints and geometrics, Kendall dominated New York fashion week. She looked stunning in a silver metallic Chanel prom gown at Paris Couture fashion week as well as proving she is just as beautiful as a blonde dressed in a lace belted top and suede boots. While leaving the Chanel show in Paris, Kendall looked fabulous in a short cropped white jacket and leather pants. Is there anything Kendall Jenner can’t wear? Cosmopolitan has the corner on what’s edgy and awesome for eyes and hair this season. Bold graphic eyeliner, dewy sun-kissed bronze complexions (when is this never in style?), “bold lips paired with minimal makeup” and loose hair is a winner this season. Hair that is cut into a short bob or worn in a high pony tail with wrapped hair around the base as well as straight hair is back and better than ever!
Regarding what looks good this season, remember the words of designer Donna Karan: “Personal Style comes from within. It’s when the woman, her individuality and spirit come through. She uses clothes to express who she is and how she feels”. If you don’t feel good about yourself or think positively it will show in how you carry yourself. Feel good, be positive, and let your style show from the inside out!
