What to Read and Watch During Social Distancing

As I’m sure all of you have noticed, social distancing has left us with a lot of free time on our hands. You have probably spent your days learning new TikTok dances, looking at “until tomorrow” Instagram posts, or just binge-watching some quality Netflix shows. How about picking up a book? Here are some of my top recommendations, each with a corresponding movie to watch!

1) To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

If you love a good, wholesome romance novel, this book is for you. It is also a trilogy for you to marathon! While you’re at it… you can even binge the Netflix original movies if you haven’t already! (you’ll fall in love with the characters even more)

2) The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon

This book is perfect for lovers of romance novels! It tackles the idea of immigrant deportation and racism. Trust me: once you read this book, you will see the universe differently. This book is perfect for an easy read, and, of course, there is a new live-action movie!

The Sun Is Also a Star

3) Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

This book is a classic piece of literature. If you haven’t read it yet, you should start now! There are seven books in the Harry Potter series, in which Harry’s path of wizardry is told. Once again, there is a movie to match each of the seven books in the series!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

4) Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

This book is a classic mystery! It will have you turning the pages as Hercule Poirot uncovers clue after clue. Once the mystery is solved, go ahead and watch it happen on the screen! (just promise not to spoil it!)

Murder on the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot, #10)

5) All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

This book is one that might make you shed a tear or two. Overall, it deals with many important topics and you will fall in love with the two main characters as they fight their own personal battles together. This book was adapted into a Netflix original this past February!

I hope you find some time for a good book or two in the next few weeks! Don’t feel the need to go out to the store, though! Barnes and Noble is currently offering curbside pickup and Amazon is always a great go-to! (Make sure you sterilize any packages first!) You can also always turn to e-books as a resource! Enjoy your reading and stay safe 🙂
