As you may know, our world is at serious risk. The environment is deteriorating and it’s a hot topic in today’s society. You have probably heard all about the climate change occurring today and as much as it concerns you, you still cannot give up all of the plastic and energy you use. So instead of doing crazy things to help your environment, here are some simple things you can do.

  • Metal straws have been a hugely common way to reduce plastic waste that we use. If you get coffees every-day, that’s a lot of straws! Metal straws can be found almost anywhere. Amazon has a wide variety of big, small, thick, or thin to fit whatever you prefer.
  • When you go to the grocery store next time, use reusable bags! Plastic bags tend to get thrown in landfills.
  • When doing schoolwork, print as little as possible. Instead of printing outlines to study from, you can use Quizlet to study instead or read the outline on your computer.
  • Recycle as much as you can. After lunch when you’re ready to throw away your food, split it up into 2 trips: one trip for recyclable products which go into the recycling bin, and the second trip for things like orange peels or things that cannot get recycled, which get put into the trash. It is very common to throw everything away together, but this causes a great amount of waste and recyclable items end up in landfills.
  • Invest in a reusable water bottle. Throughout the school day, it is too easy to give in and buy new bottles of water from the cafeteria, so maybe bring in a water bottle that you can fill up at the water fountain.
  • You can also do things as simple as being more mindful and turning off lights after you leave a room. This can make a big difference in how much electricity is being used which will make the electricity bill less expensive and will help the environment.
  • Start a carpool! If you are off of your JOL and have friends that live in your town, offer to drive once in a while!

While there are more ways to engage in saving the planet, these are just a few to get you started. You can start to see how a few small changes can make a big difference. It’s time to start working together in helping out our planet!
