On Friday, November 13th Paris erupted into chaos. Three suicide bombings happened at the Stade de France in Paris, where people were cheering on the soccer match between France and Germany. Another suicide bombing and four big shootings occurred at other parts of the City of Lights. And an equally major shooting happened at the Bataclan Concert Hall, where people were held as hostages for more than two hours and a little less than 100 people were killed. Along with the 130 total people killed, hundreds were injured severely.

These shootings were the result of ISIS, an extremist group currently residing in the Middle East. America and other European countries, with France included, are trying to combat ISIS in the Middle East. ISIS said that the attacks on Paris were for France’s attacks on them and the group threatened to do the attack other places the same way if they attacked ISIS’s strongholds.

The world has been sympathizing with France. A graphic designer created a “Peace for Paris” symbol and many monuments throughout the world were lit up with the French flag colors following the attacks. People are setting out candles and flowers in the places were shootings occurred to remember the ones who were harmed in the attacks and to protect France. It is also a way that the Parisians are showing that ISIS has not gotten to them and that they will fight back.

However, the sympathy for France does not mean a happily ever after. The attacks on Paris have done a lot of damage to the hope of making new lives in Europe for the refugees of ISIS. Some of the gunmen supposedly got into France by way of pretending to be a Syrian refugee coming for help like many others. This has lead many European countries to strengthen their borders, with some even shutting down their borders to refugees just to make sure there are no instances like Paris again. And certain countries are even going as far as taking violent approaches to discourage refugees from coming.

ISIS had made life hard for these Syrian people back in their homes. These people came to seek refuge in Europe where ISIS struck again, once again ruining theses people’s chance of a new and safe life.
